<image:title>our work - Female Nude Seated - Female Nude Seated a one-act play by Carolyn Gage</image:title>
<image:caption>This piece, followed by a talkback, was produced online via Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic on May 16, 2020. In the wake of World War I, Mainie Jellett and Evie Hone meet in art school when Evie interrupts Mainie’s attempt to drink a jar of paint thinner. Over a bottle of brandy, the two get to know one another as artists and as women who are struggling to make art in a field dominated by men. A story of female sexuality, trauma, and the demands of artistic ideals, Female Nude Seated shows two young women at a personal crossroads in a time of extraordinary change. They might be able to save one another, however, as they decide to take control of their freedom while shattering the status quo in 1917 London. <image:title>our work - WIFEY - WIFEY by Sarah E.</image:title>
<image:caption>An original, experimental piece that explores the shift from woman to wife in Trump’s America, written and directed by Sarah E. After a run at Dixon Place and Abrons Arts Center (June 2019), WIFEY was also showcased at the Theater for the New City’s 2019 Dream Up Festival (September 2019). Structured as a series of vignettes, this new work blends intimate drama, poetry, experimental movement, and nuanced lighting to tell a story that spans decades. WIFEY underscores the political and personal implications of the title "wife" and examines how this label can both influence and unmoor those of us who wear it. What do we suppress, what are we expected to do, and who must we become? WIFEY reminds us that we cannot adequately advocate on behalf of ourselves - and our daughters - without wholeheartedly listening to and engaging with the female experience. Please note that this production includes nudity and mature themes. Reviewed in The New York Theatre Wire Article featured in Bi-Coastal Babble</image:caption>
